The Seattle area’s cost of living index continues to soar as the hospitality industry struggles to hire and retain talent.

The restaurant-tech company has partnered with Yelp to host the, “Get a Handle on Hiring” panel on Monday, September 25 from 6-8 pm at ATLAS Workbase.  The panel will address the Seattle Area Restaurateur Community’s staffing crisis by leading a discussion on best practices and unique ideas for hiring front and back of house employees.

Instawork will breakdown average compensation and benefits by job title and location, as well as go over the dramatic YoY hourly wage increases.  Business owners and operators will get an inside look at what their competitors are offering to potential employees.

Panelist include Sumir Meghani, Co-Founder and CEO of Instawork; Miranda Geranios, Regional Restaurant Manager of Nordstrom;  Branden Karo, Culinary Director of Ethan Stowell Restaurants; and Carissa Linn, Director of HR at Compass Group.

The panelist will share the strategies they use to successfully hire and retain staff, as well as the challenges they face.  According to one of the panelist on the San Francisco Bay Area hiring panel, it costs about $3,000 to hire and train a new minimum wage employee.

The discussion will take a deep dive into clever employee retention solutions such as creative bonuses and employee referral programs, sharing staff with neighboring businesses, flexible scheduling, and how to proactively prevent employees from quitting without warning. Attendees will also learn best practices, backed by data, for recruiting talent including the most effective verbiage to use in a job post, best channels to communicate through, and follow-up procedures.

There will be a Yelp genius bar for any questions pertaining to businesses’ Yelp listings and the free tools for business owners. Instawork will have staff on site to discuss their platform, as well as insights and the topics presented.
