Acclaimed sommelier also sitting for the Master Sommelier exam in May
SEATTLE, WA – Metropolitan Grill, Seattle’s classic, award-winning steakhouse, announced today that Head Sommelier and Spirits Educator Thomas Price is a regional finalist in the 2012 TOP|SOMM The US Sommelier Championship of the Guild of Sommeliers to identify the best sommelier in the country. Price is one of three Seattle finalists in the West region, including James Lechner of Bastille Café and Bar and Chris Tanghe of RN74. The first round of the TOP|SOMM competition involved an 80-question online test, with eight finalists chosen from each region based on their scores.
Price, Lechner and Tanghe will compete in the regional finals on March 5 at Los Altos Country Club outside of San Francisco, with three components covering Practical, Written Theory and Blind Tasting. The top scores from each region, plus the next five highest scores will advance to the national finals in May.
Master Sommelier Examination
Additionally, Price will sit for the prestigious Master Sommelier exam in May. This invitation-only distinction is the highest honor for sommeliers and the only internationally recognized credential for the beverage sales and service fields. Only 188 individuals worldwide have successfully completed the exam since its beginnings.
