With our app Get It Now, you can get anything in your city delivered in under an hour. To do this, we outfitted our courier fleet with credit cards, enabling them to purchase goods on a customer’s behalf. Suddenly, local restaurants like HoneyHole and Red Mill Burgers deliver. Walgreens delivers. You name it. Every restaurant, every store now delivers.
Get It Now was actually the team’s worst fear. The operational challenges, changes to the existing backend infrastructure and shift in strategy was too disruptive, we thought. But, after an experiment with a subset of our users and repeated efforts from customers to hack the previousPostmates app, we decided to suck it up and build what everyone wanted — an app that allows you to select items from any store or merchant in the city and have it purchased and delivered in under an hour.
That was just eight months ago here in SF. Since then, we’ve scaled our infrastructure and fleet to handle the growing Get It Now demand. We’ve perfected our technology – a technology that consists of complex algorithms to pair the best possible courier with the job, allows the customer to track the movement of their delivery through the city, etc. – to deliver faster, more accurately. And despite new players in the space, our growth remains consistent.
In fact, we’ve seen:
-Over 200 couriers join our fleet of cars, trucks, bikes and scooters with 10% month over month fleet growth.
-Over 130K items delivered since launch.
-Over 6,000 stores with 30,000 items added to our inventory.
-Average delivery time is less than 40 min.
-Average delivery fee is just over $10.
And now, we’re live in Seattle with 35 couriers in town making deliveries and 4,000 different locations listed in our app (hundreds of which have inventory already listed). We’re already starting to see demand pick up in the Seattle neighborhoods, and I think your readers will want to find out how they can get anything from a last-minute birthday gift to coffee in the morning delivered in an hour.
