Slow & Low and Dead Line Offer Secret Menu in Pioneer Square

Pssst… from May 1st through the 18th, locals will be able to experience a secret menu in the flashy, Great Gatsby style bar in Pioneer Square — featuring Slow & Low cocktails and bacon dishes. The secret menu will only be available on Fridays: May 4, May 11, May 18.

It all began when Cooper Spirits company founder, Robert J. Cooper, began collecting straight rye whiskey well before the recent rye and whiskey resurgence. In 2013, he introduced Slow & Low, resurrecting one of the most popular drinks of a bygone era, rock & rye, and reestablishing it as part of today’s modern cocktail culture.

Rock and rye’s heritage dates back to the early 1800s when barkeeps in saloons would serve a shot of rye whiskey, often unaged and unpalatable to many, with a small bowl of rock candy which could be added by the customer to take the edge off. Later, to avoid the wrath of the growing temperance movement, the drink moved to pharmacy counters as a pre-bottled cure-all for the common cold, sniffles, sore throats, coughs and any manner of ailment.

True to its 19th century roots, Slow and Low is based on America’s original bottled cocktail – “rock and rye”– and takes its inspiration from the Hochstadter label’s pre-prohibition era recipe. Slow & Low is committed to sourcing the finest ingredients, combining aged straight rye whiskey, air-dried navel oranges from Florida, 100 percent raw honey from Western Pennsylvania, Angostura Bitters and a small dose of rock candy. The result is an extra dry 84 proof spirit with smooth drinkability, robust yet balanced flavor and low sugar (only 7 percent sugar by volume) – available in a 750ml bottle, 375ml flask and a 100ml can.

In September 2016, Cooper Spirits launched Slow & Low in a 100ml can, allowing consumers to enjoy the 84 proof historic cocktail recipe in a modern yet classic container that’s portable and convenient. The can is a proper 84 proof bar cocktail using a historic recipe and is not only introducing it in a different vessel, the can, but is doing so in a portable, convenient and novel size. Perfect for your outdoor pursuits, from camping to BBQs to sporting events, tailgates and concerts, the 100ml can is versatile and makes for just the right sized packaging.
