Schwartz Brothers Restaurants Celebrates Riesling Rendezvous with Dr. Ernst Loosen

Five Course Winemaker Dinner Highlights Washington State Wines

Schwartz Brothers Restaurants is pleased to announce a celebration of Washington and German wine at its Riesling Rendezvous dinner at Daniel’s Broiler-Lake Union, featuring famed winemaker Dr. Ernst Loosen. On Wednesday, July 17th at 6 p.m., Riesling Rendezvous will take guests on an exploration of the wine, highlighted by the release of Chateau Ste. Michelle’s 2012 Eroica in a three-year flight.

“It’s an honor to have Dr. Loosen join us for what is sure to be a winemaker dinner unlike any other,” said Justin Doll, wine director for Schwartz Brothers Restaurants. “We are very excited to showcase this versatile wine that has catapulted Washington state into the wine industry and we’ve crafted a delicious menu that pairs beautifully with the versatile flavors of Riesling. We’re pulling out high caliber wines for this dinner, highlighted by the Dr. Loosen Spätlese Three Decade Flight with 1981, 1991 and 2011 vintages.”

Dr. Loosen comes from a prominent German family with 200 years of winemaking lineage. He studied at Germany’s renowned winemaking school in Geisenheim and traveled the world to learn from and observe the greatest producers. In 1999, he collaborated with Chateau Ste. Michelle to create Eroica Riesling, which quickly became the quality benchmark for American Riesling.

With more than 6,320 acres of Riesling grapes planted, Washington state is one of the largest producing regions in America. Often celebrated for the Columbia Valley’s temperatures and diversity of growing sites, the state has become a Riesling powerhouse in the wine community. To honor this great wine, Chef Ayhan Barlas of Daniel’s Broiler-Lake Union crafted a special menu for the event to highlight the versatility of the white wine and showcase its crisp, refreshing flavors:
